The development of a railway station for this new suburban hub in Navi Mumbai stretched the brief, to create an urban magnate with a fore court area for place making that includes its landscape. The Kharghar Railway Station today is an architectural study on how to make the commuter the focus of railway station design and to push the envelope when creating public Mass Transport utility structures. The station is designed to achieve smooth efficient circulation and operations while including space for commercial viability, rugged vandal proof maintenance free finishes and functional aesthetics. The Kharghar station has a roof that also functions as a full-fledged parking lot which helps create an elevational statement. This idea, was an effort to create value from the original brief, accommodates upwards of 400 cars and 700 two wheelers on a daily basis, functioning as a park and ride facility.
